Video: Chevy Blazer EV SS Takes A Spin Around Daytona

Share this:

The first-ever fully electric Chevy Blazer EV is set to hit the market this summer, followed by a high-end SS trim model. This top-of-the-line version will be the first Chevy performance EV model, boasting an estimated 557 horsepower and transforming the family CUV into a track demon. Dig the latest video of the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV SS as it tears around the Daytona International Speedway below.

At CES 2022, General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra introduced the Chevy Blazer EV to the world. Despite the all-electric Silverado EV hogging the limelight, Barra had another surprise up her sleeve. She revealed that the Blazer EV would be the first Chevy electric vehicle to be anointed with the iconic Super Sport name.

Along with the SS version, Chevy unveiled the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV with four other trims: 1LT, 2LT, RS, a police pursuit vehicle (PPV) edition. Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, described the Blazer SS as possessing “the soul of a true sports car.”

Built on GM’s Ultium Platform, the Blazer EV SS boasts a GM-estimated range of 290 miles. The gonzo, “Wide Open Watts” (WOW) mode (similar to the GMC Hummer EV’s “Watts to Freedom” mode (WTF), allows for a 0 to 60 mph acceleration in under four seconds, according to the automaker.

The SS trim features the most aggressive design in the lineup, with a unique front grille, full LED lighting with a center light bar and illuminated “bowtie,” a two-tone color scheme with a black roof and A-pillars, and standard 22-inch wheels.

Chevy’s latest video provides a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming Chevy Blazer EV SS high-performance model. In the video, NASCAR drivers Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain showcase the capabilities of the bad boy Chevy Blazer EV SS at the Daytona International Speedway.

The drivers alternate testing the performance AWD EV using the Wide Open Watts mode. Suarez loved vehicle’s torquey scoot during his initial drive, while Chastain chimed in on its smoothness and questioned if the cup car would be as refined.

The Chevy Blazer EV SS will hit the market this fall with a starting price of approximately $65,996. This will be the most expensive trim, followed by the RS ($51,995), the 2LT ($47,595), and the 1LT with a starting price of $47,595.

Electrified Mag’s Take: This is a very attractive addition to the world of EVs. Say what you want about GM and Chevrolet, but if there is one thing the Bow Tie division understands implicitly its performance. With 557hp, this Blazer will be no slouch, and with cool styling and a feature-laden cockpit, it makes a compelling option to the tubby, egg shaped Model Y with its minimalistic interior.

It’s been rumored for years that the Camaro will be replaced by and electric SUV and I say, why would Chevy do that when the Blazer SS will be on the market in months? Please keep your fingers crossed and pray that we get a beautiful new Camaro coupe with this hot shoe version of the Ultium platform.

Now, if GM can scale production of the ALL of it’s upcoming EVs and capitalize on the pent-up demand, it can secure its position as the number two seller of EVs in North America. Maybe then Mary Barra’s declaration that GM will beat Tesla at its own gamr will come true.
