Legacy EV, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) aftermarket applications and education programs, has teamed up with Evolved Imports and SQC Tuning to create the ultimate JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) electromod.
We talked with Tim Cachelin, Legacy EV’s Marketing Coordinator, and he brought us up to date on the company: “Founded by Rob Ward, Legacy EV is the first electric vehicle company to offer complete EV conversion kits, EV components, training, and technical build-support. We can convert your fleet to electric power, build custom EVs, or provide the parts and training to mechanics that ensure the transition to electric is smooth and profitable.”
You’ve seen Legacy EV builds before. The company trained and consulted with Richard Rawlings on his Testa, a Ferrari electromod, and it built the 1966 Cadillac EV that graced the crowds at Barrett-Jackson.
Now, we bring you one of their latest collaborations. By combining JDM heritage and cutting-edge technology, Eric and Amanda Dotson of Evolved Imports & SQC Tuning have conjured up an extraordinary creation — EVzilla. With assistance from Legacy EV, they took a classic 1990 Nissan Skyline GTR and electrified it, blending nostalgia with emission-free propulsion.
Powered by a dual-motor setup borrowed from a Tesla Model S P90D, EVzilla boasts a whopping 762 horsepower and a stump-pulling 713 pound-feet of torque. This electric powertrain delivers explosive acceleration, and positions EVzilla as a groundbreaker in electric performance. Laying down a quarter-mile time in the 9-second range, EVzilla is poised to make a big splash on the electric performance car scene.
Aside from its copious power, EVzilla is a testament to meticulous engineering. The chassis and suspension have been expertly tuned with Ohlins coilovers, a custom rear cradle, and Dutchman axles for the perfect blend of comfort and performance. The exterior design, featuring a Richard Petty-esque blue paint scheme and carbon fiber accents, is fresh without compromising the car’s vintage appeal.
In the cockpit, you’ll find a blend of modern luxury and performance features. Recaro seats provide firm support during raucous romps, while AEM CD-5 gauges give you real-time performance data. A Tesla A/C system keep passengers cool, and a premium audio setup, featuring an Alpine head unit and JL Audio components, deliver a premium listening experience.
The Dotsons wanted to give a shoutout to sponsors and supporters, including Next Level Paint, Butlers Recycling, and EVRacing, for their invaluable contributions to EVzilla’s realization. This collaborative effort is a great example of the bonds within the automotive community, where sharing expertise converges to bring a neat concept to life.
With ambitious plans to showcase EVzilla at renowned events such as Elite Tuner, Electrified Expo, and SEMA, the Dotsons aim to share their knowledge of electrified performance far and wide. EVzilla stands not only as a testament to engineering prowess, but also offers a peek at the growing trend of upfitting classic cars.
Evolved Import’s future includes scaling up operations and delivering a series of high-powered electric builds that capture the spirit of iconic JDM cars. EVzilla, with its bonkers performance and precise craftsmanship, serves as the latest chapter in the evolving narrative of automotive excellence, showcasing the Dotsons’ passion and expertise in the twirling kaleidoscope of the modern automotive industry.
