Autonomous Electric Shaggin’ Wagons? Cruise Rocked By Racy Video

Share this:

Last week, a shocking video surfaced online showing a group of young people engaging in sexual and drug-related activities inside a self-driving car operated by Cruise, a San Francisco-based company that offers robotaxi services. The video, which was apparently recorded by one of the passengers and uploaded to a social media platform, quickly went viral and sparked outrage among the public and authorities.

The video shows four passengers, two men and two women, who boarded a Cruise vehicle at night and proceeded to have sex, smoke marijuana, drink alcohol, and snort cocaine while the car was driving itself on the streets of San Francisco. The passengers can be heard laughing, cheering, and making lewd comments throughout the video, seemingly oblivious to the potential dangers and consequences of their actions.

The video also shows that the car did not have a safety driver or a remote operator, as required by California law for testing autonomous vehicles on public roads. Cruise claims that it has a fleet of over 200 self-driving cars that are monitored by humans 24/7, but the video raises serious questions about the company’s compliance and oversight.

The incident has triggered a swift response from the authorities, who have launched an investigation into Cruise and its practices. The California Department of Motor Vehicleshas issued a statement saying that it is “aware of the disturbing video” and that it is “working with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and local law enforcement to gather the facts and determine what occurred.” The DMV also said that it will “take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation.”

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has also confirmed that it is looking into the matter and that it has contacted Cruise for more information. The SFPD said that it is “concerned about the safety of everyone on our streets” and that it will “hold anyone accountable who puts themselves or others at risk.”

Cruise, a division of General Motors, has issued an apology and said that it is cooperating with the authorities. The company said that it is “deeply disappointed” by the incident and that it has “zero tolerance for this type of behavior.” Cruise also said that it has identified the passengers involved and that it has banned them from using its service permanently.

The incident has exposed the dark side of the emerging technology of self-driving cars, which promises to revolutionize transportation but also poses new challenges and risks. While self-driving cars have the potential to reduce traffic accidents, emissions, and congestion, they also create new opportunities for abuse, misuse, and crime.

Hmmmmm, a box on wheels. What could possibly go wrong?

How can we ensure that self-driving cars are used responsibly and ethically? How can we prevent people from exploiting them for illegal or immoral purposes? How can we protect the privacy and security of passengers and pedestrians? These are some of the questions that need to be addressed as we move forward with this technology.

The incident also highlights the need for more regulation and oversight of self-driving cars, especially in California, which is home to many companies that are developing and testing this technology. Currently, California allows companies to test self-driving cars on public roads with a permit from the DMV, but there are no clear rules or standards for how these cars should operate or interact with other road users. There are also no penalties or sanctions for violating the permit conditions or endangering public safety. This creates a situation where companies can operate with impunity and without accountability.

As self-driving cars become more prevalent and accessible, we need to ensure that they are safe, reliable, and trustworthy. We need to establish clear laws and regulations that govern their use and performance. We need to create mechanisms for monitoring and enforcing compliance. We need to educate and inform the public about the benefits and risks of this technology. And we need to foster a culture of responsibility and respect among users and providers of this service. Only then can we enjoy the advantages of self-driving cars without compromising our safety and values.
