The hybrid powertrain invasion is continuing. The newest arrival is the 2025 Toyota Camry, which will utilize the company’s THS 5 hybrid system. The car is also getting a number of exterior and interior changes along with a host of standard technology features.

Up To 51 MPG Combined

The 2025 Toyota Camry has the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) alongside a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. This combination produces a standard 225 net-combined horsepower in front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. This marks the highest standard horsepower available for a Camry. It’s coupled with exceptional fuel efficiency, estimated by Toyota at 51 mpg combined on the LE FWD model. The upgraded system utilizes lighter and more compact electric motor generators to amplify power output and performance compared to its predecessor. Additionally, Toyota engineers calibrated the THS 5 system to deliver a smoother acceleration experience. This involved boosting power from the lithium-ion traction battery via the electric motor generator. This tempers steep increases in engine revolutions during acceleration. Furthermore, the Camry is equipped with an electronically controlled continuous variable transmission (eCVT). The company says the unit is adept at selecting the optimal gear ratio in response to throttle input, thus maximizing fuel efficiency.

All-Wheel Drive Is Available On All Grades

Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is an option available across all Camry grades. This is the first time that AWD is available with a hybrid powertrain in the Camry. It’s seamlessly integrated with THS 5 and it employs an electric motor generator on the rear axle. The result is a net-combined horsepower of 232 – a 30 horsepower increase compared to the previous model equipped with mechanical all-wheel drive.

The AWD system offers precise front-rear torque distribution tailored to driving conditions. It enhances start-off acceleration, handling, and stability in everyday driving scenarios. In instances where road conditions are deemed slippery or tire grip is compromised, the system dynamically adjusts torque distribution to the rear wheels. This ensures ample traction performance to maintain the car’s intended trajectory and bolstering driver confidence.

The 2025 Toyota Camry Has A Retuned Suspension And Upgraded Braking

The 2025 Toyota Camry also receives a retuned suspension. Toyota says it enhances responsiveness and agility, especially on winding roads. All models come equipped with an optimally tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. However, the SE and XSE grades boast a sport-tuned suspension. It features new shock absorbers at the front and rear, along with a larger diameter front stabilizer bar. Additionally, the Camry’s braking system has been upgraded to provide enhanced control and feel. The electronically controlled braking system (ECB) now incorporates on-demand pressurization facilitated by a new pump motor in the brake actuator. Finally, drivers can tailor their driving experience with standard selectable Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes. This allows drivers to fine-tune their Camry’s performance to their preferences.

New Exterior Appearance

The ninth-generation Camry is crafted by CALTY’s Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan studios. It introduces a sleeker and more athletic appearance to the sedan. All grades incorporate LED headlights and daytime running lights. On the comfort grades, there’s a horizontal bar front grille, which is black on LE or finished in dark metallic grey on the XLE trim. Additionally, the LE model now includes 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, while the XLE model comes with 18-inch black and machine-finished alloy wheels. The sporty SE and XSE grades feature sport-mesh front grilles, side sport rockers, and black finishes. Additionally, functional front side air ducts, canards, a rear spoiler, and rear diffuser contribute to the racing-inspired design, improving aerodynamic performance. Also included is an exposed dual-tip exhaust and gloss black Camry name badge. The XSE model gets a color-matched front grille, front side canards, and rear diffuser among other things.

Interior Features

The Camry SE model offers SofTex-trimmed seats with bold white accents in either Boulder or Black. On the other hand, the XSE includes a standard leather-trimmed interior featuring an artistic “shooting blade” patterned perforation on both the side door trim and seating surfaces. The XSE interior comes in two color options: Black with blue-lined perforations or the popular Cockpit Red. Both the SE and XSE grades feature standard aluminum sport pedals, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel equipped with paddle shifters and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The LE and LXE comfort grades sport their own style. The LE model has an interior design inspired by ocean waves. It features an embossed pattern in woven fabric on the interior trim and seat surfaces, in Boulder or Black. The higher-end XLE grade marks the first Toyota Camry to showcase a combination of leather and Dinamica microfiber trim, offered in Light Gray or Black.

Enhanced Seat Comfort

The new Camry has enhanced seat comfort via modifications to the shape and density of the seat cushion, along with an increase in cushion length. The headrest has been softened and repositioned rearward to improve seat ergonomics and ride comfort. This comfort is further enhanced with standard heated front seats on the XLE and XSE models, optionally available on the LE and SE grades. Additionally, the higher-end grades offer an optional front ventilated seat feature and a standard heated steering wheel. Moreover, the XLE and XSE grades are equipped with standard 8-way power driver and 8-way power passenger seats.

Standard 7-Inch Digital Gauge Cluster

The LE and SE models feature a standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster, while the XLE and XSE grades are equipped with a standard 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster. Additionally, the XLE and XSE grades offer an optional 10-inch head-up display. This enables drivers to monitor speed, warning indicators, and turn-by-turn navigation while focusing on the road. The Toyota Audio Multimedia System has a standard 8-inch touchscreen display, with an optional 12.3-inch screen available. This system includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. There’s also a standard Qi wireless charging pad. Furthermore, the Camry features a standard combination of five USB ports across all grades: three in the front (2 USB-C and 1 USB-A media port) and two in the rear (1 USB-C and 1 USB-A). Enhanced connectivity options extend to simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone connectivity through Toyota Audio Multimedia.

The Bottom Line

In addition to its hybrid-only powertrain, the 2025 Toyota Camry gets a host of updates. But here’s the kicker: When it arrives in dealerships soon it’ll have a base price of $28,400. This is $400 less than the outgoing Hybrid base grade, and the 2025 Camry will have more standard features.
