Groundbreaking and creative electric vehicle innovations keep coming! Example: Gildred Racing, known for its high-performance Mini Super Cooper custom builds, has unveiled its new 300 hp Super Cooper EV. The company blends a meticulously restored vintage Mini with a cutting-edge electric drivetrain to create a very unique car. Here’s an in-depth look at the Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV.

Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV Stats

The Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV has a small Tesla drive unit that is pirated from a dual-motor Model S or X. The motor is capable of nearly 300 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque, which clearly gives the vehicle a great power-to-weight ratio. It’s fed by a 31-37 kWh battery pack. Consequently, this gives the car a range of up to 150 miles. “The Super Cooper EV utilizes a high voltage system developed by Electric Classic Cars, the world’s premier gasoline-to-electric conversion company. They built a phenomenal system for an EV Mini conversion,” comments Tyler Gildred, President and Owner of Gildred Racing. “It’s so pure in terms of what a classic Mini is and should be, that I really think the new Super Cooper EV is going to be something that we focus on a lot moving forward. I really love it.”

Super Cooper EV Options and Customization

Gildred Racing offers the Super Cooper EV with modern conveniences such as air conditioning, heating, and premium audio systems. Each Super Cooper EV conversion begins with a complete restoration of a vintage Mini. Each car is then adapted to fit the clients driving style and usage plan, with acceleration, maximum throttle, and regenerative braking factored in. Furthermore, the car features an onboard selector switch, which allows the driver to choose between efficient Normal and performance-oriented Sport driving options.

Designed to Be Easy To Drive

Gildred Racing wanted to ensure that any driver could hop into the Super Cooper EV and go. One of the ways the company accomplished this was to streamline the dash and controls. But there’s more. Nathan Hoagland, Mechanic and Fabricator at Gildred Racing says the car looks and feels like a classic Mini, except with more power, better drivability, and a much quieter experience for everyone inside the vehicle. Furthermore, Hoagland says, “This is about the fastest, smoothest, and best driving classic Mini that you can really hope for.”

The First Super Cooper EV

The Super Cooper EV you see here is Gildred Racing’s first. It’s a 1971 model sporting Riviera Blue paint with a gray roof and a houndstooth cream and light gray fabric interior. The cabin retains the ’70s aesthetic and it sports Smiths-style instruments in a quintessential center binnacle and open dash design.

Available For Preorder

Gildred Racing’s Super Cooper EV is available for preorder now. The company’s website says there’s a 1-year waitlist for new builds, pricing starts at $140,000, and deliveries will begin in early 2024.
