The new Honda Motocompacto is a one-of-a-kind, foldable e-scooter that can’t be confused with anything else. You roll up on this and you’ll have people’s attention. You’ll also have their attention when you tell ‘em the MSRP is only $995. Here’s the lowdown on the unique Honda Motocompacto e-scooter.

Honda Motocompacto E-Scooter Power and Range

The Honda Motocompacto e-scooter is a modern take on the company’s Motocompo tiny mini-motorcycle from the early ‘80s. Honda engineers in Ohio and California designed the new Motocompacto, and it has earned 32 patents. It’s a front-wheel-drive e-scooter that’s powered by a permanent magnet, direct drive motor. This motor has a peak output of 490W and it generates 11.8 lb-ft of torque. The motor is fed by a 6.8 Ah battery that’s charged using a common household 110V outlet. A compact charger is stored onboard the scooter and it only takes 3.5 hours from 0 to 100 percent. The Motocompacto has a top speed of 15 mph and a range of up to 12 miles.

Motocompacto By the Numbers

To give you an idea of the small size of the Motocompacto, here’s its measurements. The wheelbase measures 29.2 inches. It has an overall length of 38.1 inches, a height of 35 inches, and it’s 17.2 inches at its widest. Seat height is a modest 24.5 inches. Furthermore, The scooter has a total weight of only 41.3 pounds.

Fold and Carry

One of the most unique aspects of the new Motocompacto is its foldability. Honda says that the scooter quickly transforms into its own compact and stackable carrying case. From what we can see, folding the scooter takes only seconds. When folded, the e-scooter measures only 29.2 inches in length, 21.1 inches tall, and 3.7 inches wide. This small size means the Motocompacto can be toted onto public transportation or carried in a vehicle. Also, it won’t take up much space in a closet or small apartment, either.

More Features of the Motocompacto

Honda’s Motocompacto has a comfy seat so a rider’s backside will be happy throughout a 12-mile ride. There’s also a pair of grippy foot pegs, a bit of on-board storage, a digital speedometer, a charge gauge, and a carry handle. There’s even a phone app that links to the scooter via Bluetooth. This app allows riders to adjust personal settings, like lighting and ride modes. The Motocompacto has a heat-treated aluminum frame and wheels, LED headlight and taillight, side reflectors, and a kickstand-mounted steel lock loop that’s compatible with most bike locks. And if you see the scooter’s side panels as a prime candidate for personalization, you’re right. It’s designed so the owner can tailor it to their taste with things like stickers and skins. Furthermore, Honda is offering a line of branded Motocompacto accessories that include a helmet, backpack, apparel, and more.

The Bottom Line

We’re digging all the cool e-mobility options that are flooding the market. The unique Honda Motocompacto will undoubtedly appeal to those who live in an urban environment. It’s light and compact and offers enough range for short commutes or errands. The e-scooter will go on sale for $995 in November 2023. Sales will begin exclusively online and at Honda and Acura dealers.
