Czinger 21C Blackbird: A Blistering Fast, Groundbreaking Hybrid Hypercar

Czinger has rolled out its astonishing, 1,350 horsepower, hybrid, 21C Blackbird edition hypercar. Its a nod to the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. The SR-71 Blackbird was a cold war-era reconnaissance aircraft that Lockheed says was and remains the world’s highest and fastest-flying manned aircraft. Here’s a look at the fast, groundbreaking, hybrid Czinger 21C Blackbird edition hypercar.

21C Hybrid Powertrain

The Czinger 21C Blackbird’s power comes from a proprietary, mid-mounted, 2.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and axial flux electric motor at each front wheel. The electric motors produce up to 272 lb-ft and 150 kW of peak torque and power and include torque vectoring. In basic 21C form, the hybrid powertrain produces 1,250 hp at a scorching 11,000 rpm. It’s also notable that the engine is designed to use a range of fuels including carbon recycled methanol and other e-fuels. The 800V electric drive includes a regen system. The car’s 4.4 kWh batteries are charged via regenerative braking and a Motor Generator Unit (MGU). The MGU is powered by a gear drive that is attached to the car’s engine.

The Czinger 21C Has Scorching Performance

If you expect the 2,756-pound Czinger 21C to have stunning performance, you expected correctly. As a matter of fact, the car has set lap records. These were at Laguna Seca and Circuit of the Americas in the Production Car segment. The 21C’s performance numbers are fire. Specifically, Czinger says it has a top speed of 253 mph. Acceleration comes in at 1.9 seconds from 0-62 mph. The 21C rips through the quarter-mile in 8.1 seconds. Furthermore, Czinger says the 21C can go from 0-186 mph in a scorching 8.5 seconds.

More About the Czinger 21C

The Czinger 21C, which the company says is the fastest production car in the world, is designed, built, and manufactured in Los Angeles, California. The car is the world’s first human-AI designed and 3D printed hypercar and its designed using Czinger’s proprietary production system. Furthermore, it uses automated assembly and patented in-house materials. The car has many unique characteristics including jetfighter-style in-line seating.

Czinger 21C Blackbird Edition Special Features

Compared to a standard 21C, the Blackbird edition has several special features. The most obvious is the exterior. The Blackbird has a black finish with integrated exposed carbon surfaces and a custom exhaust that mimics the iconic shape of SR-71 afterburners. Additionally, the wheels shadow the signature top view profile of the SR-71 aircraft. Oh, and horsepower gets a bump to 1,350. Following the Blackbird’s unveiling at Monterey Car Week, Lukas Czinger, Co-Founder and COO, said, “Revealing the Blackbird edition today is a full circle moment, as I remember watching Kelly Johnson documentaries and building SR-71 models with my father growing up. Now as founders deeply inspired by the SR-71 program and Skunkworks mentality, it is with great joy that we offer our customers the most advanced version of the 21C in the Blackbird edition. It is the edition that Kevin and I dreamed of.”
