There’s a new player in the electric bike world. It’s called DrgnFly and it was unveiled at CES 2024. Among its many features the aluminum-frame bike has a range of up to 63 miles and a two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

VinFast DrgnFly Motor, Charge Time, and More

Let’s dive into some of the bike’s tech. The DrgnFly has a 750W motor integrated into the rear wheel. It is said to deliver power smoothly and instantaneously with a top speed of 28 mph. An advanced energy management system supports its performance, providing a long travel distance of up to 63 miles and four pedal-assist modes. The torque sensor on the DrgnFly adapts to movements, detecting force changes 16,000 times per second. The manufacturer says this surpasses traditional cadence sensors used in typical e-bikes. DrgnFly has an exposed, detachable 48V 14 Ah lithium-ion battery pack that seamlessly integrates into the frame. VinFast says the charging time using the 150W portable charger is 320 minutes. As previously noted, the battery is detachable so battery swapping for extra range is possible.

Embedded 4G Connection and Smart Features

The DrgnFly is a connected and smart electric bike. Hence, it comes with an embedded 4G connection and a companion app that enables riders to access various smart features. These include riding modes, remote locking/bike locator (GPS), ride statistics records, and remote diagnostics. Moreover, over-the-air (OTA) updates ensure that riders consistently have an optimized vehicle.

Design Inspired by the Golden Era of Motorcycles

DrgnFly is a product of VinFast Auto, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer. The company collaborated with Eskild Hansen, a Danish studio with multiple Red Dot Design awards, on the design. Firstly, the bike includes a vintage design inspired by the golden era of motorcycles. The DrgnFly design features a V-shaped, elongated frame reminiscent of the image of a flying dragon. The name DrgnFly draws inspiration from the image of the “ascending dragon.” This has deep roots in the history of Thang Long, Vietnam. The bike has wide handlebars, 20×4-inch balloon tires, and an ergonomic riding position. DrgnFly weighs approximately 70 pounds, has a weight capacity of approximately 286 pounds, a length of 68 inches, and an overall top speed of approximately 20 mph. Furthermore, the bike has a thumb throttle, headlight, and taillight.

Not Just an E-Bike, it’s a Lifestyle Option

Ms. Tran Mai Hoa, Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing, VinFast Global, said: “VinFast’s DrgnFly is not just an e-bike, it’s a lifestyle option for modern users who seek to express their personality. With its unique design and a wide range of smart technologies, the DrgnFly offers a safe yet unique and accessible mobility option for everyone.” The DrgnFly is the next extension in VinFast’s comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem. This contributes to the company’s commitment to making smart electric mobility accessible to everyone.

Two-Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty

The VinFast Drgnfly e-bike is launching in the U.S. market with prices starting at $2,800. The bike comes with a two-year and unlimited mileage warranty. Furthermore, DrgnFly is anticipated to debut in other global markets soon.

About VinFast

VinFast, established in 2017, owns a state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, Vietnam. This facility boasts up to 90 percent automation. The company recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its new 1,800-acre EV factory in North Carolina. This is notable in part because it’s the first EV factory in the state. Specifically, it will include production and assembly areas as well as supplementary supplier businesses. VinFast says the factory is designed to produce 150,000 vehicles yearly in Phase 1. Production is expected to begin in 2025. Additionally, VinFast is accelerating its business and brand recognition in the U.S. One part of its plan is by expanding its retail store and service center system. Another part is by organizing local test drives of VinFast vehicles and by displaying its products at events throughout California. Finally, as of November 2023, VinFast has received 70 dealer applications in the U.S.
