Select models of Mazda’s all-new CX-70 two-row crossover SUV will go on sale this spring. For us electrified fans the 2025 Mazda CX-70 is of particular interest because it offers a trio of electrified powertrains. As a bonus, each is paired with all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

2025 Mazda CX-70 Offers Three Electrified Powertrains

The CX-70 offers three electrified powertrain options: two variants of the e-Skyactiv G 3.3L Inline 6 Turbo with 48V M-Hybrid Boost and an e-Skyactiv PHEV. All three choices are coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, along with standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. The e-Skyactiv G 3.3L I-6 48V M-Hybrid Boost in the CX-70’s Turbo Preferred, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Premium Plus packages punches out 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant gets tweaks when it’s in the Turbo S Premium and Premium Plus packages. The result is a solid bump to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Mazda Intelligent Drive Select, or Mi-Drive, with Sport, Off-Road and available Towing or EV modes is included, depending on the model.

CX-70 PHEV Pairs a 2.5-Liter Gas Engine With Electric Motor

The e-Skyactive plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV) pairs a 2.5-liter gas engine with a 68 kW electric motor. This pair can generate up to 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. When the 17.8 kWh battery pack is charged the vehicle is powered by the electric motor. The gas engine will assist when extra power is needed. The engine can also take over entirely when the PHEV battery is depleted. Mazda says the PHEV drivetrain offers up to 26 miles of electric-only power. The PHEV’s battery is charged via regenerative braking or by the gas engine. The battery can be charged via a level 1, 2, or 3 charger.

Towing, MPGe, and Home Charger Partnership

The CX-70 PHEV’s powertrain achieves an impressive 56 MPGe and can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories. Notably, Mazda’s partnership with Qmerit ensures convenient home charger installation for CX-70 PHEV owners. This collaboration grants access to Qmerit’s certified installers nationwide. All CX-70 PHEV models boast Mi-Drive with Sport, Off-Road, Towing, and EV Modes. The EV Mode enables drivers to operate the CX-70 PHEV solely on the electric motor and battery for an extended duration.

Remote-Folding Rear Seats, Optimized Cargo Area, and Alexa Built-in

Mazda has strategically designed several key features aimed at enhancing utility, connectivity, and overall passenger comfort in the CX-70. To facilitate ease in handling cargo, Mazda introduces new remote-folding rear seats. This feature simplifies the loading process into the rear of the vehicle. Additionally, the rear cargo area has been optimized. It now incorporates additional compartments, hooks for bags and equipment, and a unique sub-trunk design. This design allows CX-70 owners to discreetly stow valuables and small items out of sight. Another noteworthy feature is the integration of Alexa Built-in. This feature is standard across all CX-70 models. It’s worth noting that the CX-70 is the first Mazda crossover to incorporate Alexa Built-in. Lastly, Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) technology, which suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance stability and help all occupants to maintain a natural posture, is also standard on all CX-70 models.

Three Trim Levels in the CX-70 3.3 Turbo

As mentioned earlier, Mazda offers the CX-70 3.3 Turbo in three trim levels. No matter which trim you choose the vehicle will come with leather seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and a steering wheel equipped with paddle shifters.
