If you are interested in the future of electric vehicles, you might want to pay attention to what Stellantis is doing with its STLA Medium platform. This is one of the four modular fully electric architectures that the automaker group will use for its upcoming models, along with STLA Small, STLA Large, and STLA Frame. The STLA Medium platform is designed for vehicles in the C and D segments, such as compact and midsize cars, crossovers, and SUVs.

The first vehicle to debut on the STLA Medium platform will be the next-generation Peugeot 3008, which is expected to launch by the end of this year. According to Stellantis, the platform will offer a range of up to 435 miles on the WLTP cycle when paired with a “Performance” battery pack, which has a capacity of 98 kWh. The “Standard” battery pack will have a lower capacity and a range of up to 310 miles.

The platform will also feature a 400-volt electric architecture that will allow fast charging from 20% to 80% in 27 minutes. The power output will vary from 160 kW (215 hp) to 285 kW (382 hp), depending on the configuration. The platform will support both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

Stellantis claims that the new architecture will be future-proof, as it is engineered with provisions for future battery chemistries, including solid-state batteries. The platform will also have a common tray and cooling design for all battery packs, which will reduce costs and complexity. Stellantis aims to produce at least 2 million EVs a year based on the STLA Medium platform, starting from Europe and expanding to other regions.

The STLA Medium platform is part of Stellantis’ ambitious electrification strategy, which includes launching more than 40 new electrified models by 2025 across its 14 brands. The automaker group expects to achieve a BEV market share of over 38% in Europe and over 10% in North America by 2030.
