Race Winning Brands’ MK3 EV Shelby Cobra is an all-electric powerhouse that showcases the company’s Core EV Conversion Kit along with Haltech upgrades. The car offers potent performance including 4,450 lb-ft of torque at the rear axle.
Unveiled at SEMA 2023
The MK3 EV Shelby Cobra is on display at the 2023 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Nevada. SEMA is a four-day trade show that takes place annually. This automotive-based trade show contains approximately 2,400 exhibiting companies, covers 2.2 million square feet, and draws over 161,000 people. It’s a fitting location to show off the MK3 EV Shelby Cobra and its cutting-edge electric drivetrain.
The MK3 EV Shelby Cobra
The MK3 EV Shelby Cobra may look like an ICE-powered Cobra minus the exhaust side pipes, however, the electrified Cobra is in a class all its own. The EV has a 400V battery and it produces 4,450 lb-ft of torque at the rear axle. Axle gearing is 3.55:1, and the car has an estimated weight of 2,550 pounds. All of this contributes to a 0-60 mph acceleration time of only 2.7 seconds.
Core EV Conversion Kit
The Core EV Conversion Kit is from CV4 EV Performance (a Race Winning Brands line), and it was developed in conjunction with Go Tech Performance. The CV4 name has prior history in several areas, including the sport compact and powersports areas. The kit supplies the essential or “core” components needed for an EV conversion, minus the battery. It’s designed to offer an easier start to an EV conversion. The kit is configured for front motor-mounted configuration, which allows for easier access to modifications and decreases the need for custom fabrication. Furthermore, it allows for the use of traditional drivetrain components such as a driveshaft and differential. The kit includes several items including a motor/inverter, longitudinal reduction transmission, A/C compressor, electric water pump, and DC fast charge controller and connector kit.
Numerous Haltech Upgrades
Haltech, also a Race Winning Brands line, provided several upgrades for the EV Shelby Cobra conversion. These are all available as upgrades to the Core EV Conversion Kit. The list includes the Nexus PD16 Power Distribution Module, Elite 750 ECU with Universal Wire Harness Kit, CAN Hub 4-port DTM-4, CAN keypad 2×4, iC-7 Digital Dash, TMS-4 Tire Pressure Internal Sensors, and TMS-4 Tire Pressure External Sensors.
The Bottom Line
We’re excited about the Core EV Conversion Kit and the possibilities it creates. Furthermore, we think the MK3 EV Shelby Cobra is a textbook example of a clean and powerful EV conversion.
