Fisker Alaska: A New Player In The EV Pickup Truck Game

Share this:

Fisker has jumped into the EV pickup truck game with the four-door, all-electric Alaska. And at first glance, the Fisker Alaska EV pickup truck appears to have the makings of a major player. It has the functionality many people need in a truck, an attractive design, it claims “fast” performance, boasts decent range, and a sub-$50K price tag.

About the Fisker Alaska’s Cargo Bed

One of the things we were most interested in is the Alaska’s ability to do truck stuff, because, well, that’s the reason most people buy trucks. And one of the items that is key to doing truck stuff is the cargo bed. Designed for multiple cargo configurations, the Alaska’s bed is extendable from 4.5 feet to 7.5 feet to 9.2 feet. How does the Alaska offer those three lengths? Well, the truck has what Fisker calls a Houdini bed divider. This divider retracts to open the cargo area to the cabin area (think Chevy Avalanche). With the divider and tailgate closed, the bed has a length of 4.5 feet. Opening the Houdini bed divider offers a cargo length of 7.5 feet with the rear seats folded forward. Opening the tailgate generates another 1.7 feet of length. In the wheeltub-less bed we can see four bedrail-mounted tie-downs and in-bed LED lighting.

Fisker Alaska Size and Range

Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker took the mic at the company’s first-ever Product Vision Day to roll through some of Alaska’s highlights. He noted that the Alaska is designed to have pickup truck usability, but also be a “driver’s car” with great roadholding, a great ride, and fun to drive. He noted that the Alaska fits into a category between compact and mid-size truck. The Alaska is designed to be the world’s lightest EV pickup truck as well as the world’s most sustainable truck. How does this translate to range? Well, the Alaska has a projected range of 230-340 miles.

Exterior Design of the Alaska Pickup

The exterior of the Alaska is a study in stunning design. Bulging fenders that accentuate the truck’s stance merge with character lines that grab, and hold, attention. Check out the cool rear passenger door and C-pillar design. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in our opinion the overall visual design of the truck flows nicely but has an edgy element. Many people work or play off-road in their trucks, so we’re pleased to see a pair of easily accessible high-mount front towhooks. We’re also liking all the forward-facing lighting though we wonder how the trio of lights in the lower fascia will fare when bashing snowdrifts, sand, or when clipped by a rock on the trail.

Inside: Big Gulp Mode and a Cowboy Hat Holder

Fisker noted that the interior of the Alaska has trim made from reclaimed wood (a nod to sustainability). Fun fact: The wood is made to feel like fabric. Other unique interior features include Big Gulp Mode (“the world’s largest cupholder”), and a roof-mounted cowboy hat holder. It’s also worth noting that the rear window in the Houdini bed divider retracts. Fisker says this feature creates “California Mode.”

Fisker Alaska EV Pickup Truck is Based on the Ocean Platform

The Alaska is built on an extended version of the Fisker Ocean platform called the FT31. This means the Alaska shares Ocean DNA. This is key to launching Alaska production rather quickly. A press release notes that the truck is expected to begin deliveries in 2025, but at Fisker’s Product Vision Day Henrik Fisker said he wants the truck in December 2024. On the topic of performance, Fisker says the Alaska will share the Ocean’s “fast, road-holding EV performance.”

Alaska Pricing Will Start Well Under $50K

Fisker says Alaska pricing will start at $45,400. With federal incentives that price could drop to $37,900. Either way, those are darn good prices for an EV pickup based on what the Alaska has to offer. Reservations are now open for Alaska at fiskerinc.com.
